Volunteers Plant 2,600 Trees
Congressman Brian Higgins joined hundreds of volunteers trained by Re-Tree WNY to kick-off a major replanting of trees devastated by the October 2006 storm. Approximately 1,000 trees were planted in the City and 1,600 in the suburbs. This effort marks the fourth tree planting by Re-Tree WNY at 60 sites in the Western New York area.
Re-Tree WNY was awarded the National Arbor Day Foundation 2008 Project Award at a national ceremony held earlier this year. The Organization has a five-year plan with a goal to replace the approximately 30,000 trees damaged or destroyed during the storm.
