GRANTS ANNOUNCED FOR SW GEORGIA RECIPIENTS

U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop has announced the following federal grants and funding allocations for recipients in Georgia’s Second Congressional District, which covers a widespread area of southwest Georgia:

A U.S. Department of Education grant of $894,150 to Darton College of Albany to recruit 100 students from “under represented” populations for a program to increase the state’s high school completion rate.

A U.S. Department of Education allocation of $496,750 to Albany State University to establish a multi-disciplinary early learning center to provide children between the ages of 3 and 14 training in technology, language, arts, music appreciation, science and mathematics, and create a demonstration laboratory for professionals, students, and faculty in social sciences, nursing and administration.

A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant of $119,960 to Albany State University for a program entitled “Head Start Partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”

A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant of $491,785 to Albany Area Primary Health Care, Inc. for expansion of services.

A U.S. Department of Homeland Security “Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety” grant of $80,822 to the Ashburn Fire Department.

U.S. House and Urban Development grants for modernization and development of the housing authorities of Albany, $1,176,455; Americus, $850,136; Arlington, $34,239; Ashburn, $223,899; Blakely, $231,355; Boston, $61,358; Cairo, $252,010; Camilla, $658,140; Columbus, $2,758,676; Cordele, $663,159; Cuthbert, $170,423; Doerun, $66,221; Edison, $89,422; Moultrie, $474,297; Newton, $57,058; Pelham, $315,203; Quitman, $320,830; Shellman, $27,751; Sylvester, $338,492; Thomasville, $353,762; Tifton, $549,991; Valdosta, $760,214; Lee County, $140,482; and Stewart County, $95,122.
