RESOLUTION HONORS ACTOR AND CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST OSSIE DAVIS

Washington, D.C. – This afternoon, Congressman Sanford Bishop introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives honoring Ossie Davis who passed away Friday, February 4, 2005.
Born in Cogdell, GA, Ossie Davis distinguished himself as a civil rights leader and an actor known for taking on roles that challenged racial injustice. He performed in more than 80 movies, including “the Hill,” “Scalphunters,” “Do the Right Thing” and “Malcolm X.”

Two months ago, Ossie Davis and his wife were honored at the Kennedy Center for their lifelong contributions to theater, television and film, as well as for being models of courage and grace in the long struggle for equality in the United States.

“Ossie Davis was a man of great courage and character,” said Congressman Sanford Bishop. “Our world better place because of his talents and his tireless effort, which it is an honor to pay tribute to. My condolences go out to his family. He will be dearly missed.”
