Veterans

I have always fought for the protection of veterans and the retired military community. These individuals are owed a tremendous debt of gratitude by the current generation of Americans as well as future ones. When duty called, these brave men and women answered heroically to defend our freedom and the values that we as Americans hold dear. It is now our duty in Congress to answer the call and meet the needs of our veterans and military retirees, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in the 110th Congress to ensure that we fulfill our commitment.

The following bills are just some of the legislation I have cosponsored during the 110th Congress related to veterans and military retirees:

H.R. 89, the Combat-Related Special Compensation Act. This bill provides monthly combat-related special compensation pay to any military retiree who is entitled to retired pay and has a combat-related disability.

H.R. 303, the Retired Pay Restoration Act. This bill allows the receipt of both military retired pay and veterans’ disability compensation with respect to any service-connected disability.

H.R. 760, the Filipino Veterans Equity Act. This bill deems service performed before July 1, 1946, in the organized military forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Scouts as active military service for purposes of eligibility for veterans' benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

H.R. 784, Current law provides full SBP coverage for military retirees who have paid SBP premiums for at least 30 years and have attained the age of 70. H.R. 968 would move this paid-up date from October 1, 2008, to October 1 of the current year.
