Since I was elected to Congress, I have advocated for pro-growth tax policies and stressed the importance of restrained federal spending. Keeping taxes low, coupled with fiscal restraint and economic growth, is spurring significant progress towards eliminating the federal budget deficit entirely and has provided the current Congress with a unique and important opportunity to balance the federal budget. The best way to take advantage of this opportunity is to continue to cut wasteful government spending and promote pro-growth policies that grow our economy. It is my hope that the new Democratic leadership in Congress will avoid partisan attacks and continue to build on past successful policies.
Additionally, I will continue my support for legislation that permanently and completely repeals the estate tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). Furthermore, I support legislation to reform our nation’s tax code. I believe our tax system is broken and a reformed system could produce even greater results than the recent tax cuts.
