North Muskegon Junior Appointed as a Fall Semester Congressional Page

Eaghan Davis One of 60 Young Men and Women Who Serve During the Fall Semester

Washington, Nov 13 -

North Muskegon High School junior Eaghan Davis, 16, is currently serving as a congressional page for the 2008 fall semester in Washington, D.C.

“Eaghan is an intelligent young man who possesses an outstanding work ethic,” said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. “Serving as a congressional page requires a positive attitude and ability to quickly learn new skills, and Eaghan has demonstrated the necessary capacity to step up and meet the demands of his new endeavor.”

Members of the House are asked on a rotating basis by the Speaker to nominate high school sophomores to serve as pages during the fall or spring of their junior year. The page program involves an extremely competitive application process. Davis is one of 60 young men and women from throughout the country currently serving during the fall semester.

Eaghan has a 3.98 grade point average and is ranked among the top 10 percent of his class. He has participated in Northwestern University’s summer honors program for three years. He is a member of National Honors Society, Spanish Club, Student Council and the Muskegon Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council.

Davis attends five 50-minute classes beginning at 6:45 a.m. daily. The House of Representatives Page School is located on a restricted floor of the Library of Congress. His workday begins at 11:30 a.m. or an hour before the House convenes, depending on which begins first. He dresses in full uniform, which consists of a navy blazer, a white long-sleeved dress shirt, grey slacks, black shoes and an issued tie. Pages live in the Page Residence Hall, located two blocks from Capitol. At all times Pages are required to abide by a strict code of conduct.

His duties include delivering flags that have been flown over the Capitol to member offices, delivering vote results to the Democrat and Republican cloakrooms, transporting member statements from the House floor to Congressional Record clerks and delivering packages between individual member and committee offices. Pages are stationed on the House floor and interact with members daily.

Davis intends to apply to Dartmouth University, Cornell, and Northwestern University after completing high school. After college he plans to attend law school.

“I am thankful to Representative Hoekstra for the tremendous opportunity that he has provided to me,” Davis said. “The truly once-in-a-lifetime experience has left a lasting impression by significantly increasing my interest in politics and the federal legislative process.”

Davis is the son of Shawn P. Davis and Laurel Davis of North Muskegon.
