Washington, Nov 20 - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, issued the following statement after House Democrats removed U.S. Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn, as chairman of the powerful House Committee on Energy and Commerce and replaced him with U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles.

“I am disappointed that House Democrats have removed Rep. Dingell from his chairmanship of a top committee in Congress that considers legislation with enormous impact on Michigan,” Hoekstra said. “It is bad for Michigan, bad for the auto industry and significantly diminishes our delegation’s influence in Congress.”

House Democrats on a 137-122 vote replaced Dingell with Waxman, a representative from Hollywood who consistently supports policies that negatively impact the automotive industry.

“John Dingell has proven to be a friend, a colleague and an effective legislator in all the years that I have known him as a member of Congress,” Hoekstra said.
