Above:
U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley described how Medicare regulatory
reform can improve health care access for America's seniors, as U.S.
Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Commerce Committee Chairman Billy Tauzin
(R-LA) listen in. |
Whether it's the climate, the high standard of living, or the many
other attractions of southern Nevada, our community can boast the
fastest growing population of seniors in the entire country. This means
that health and seniors' issues are a top priority for our district, and
for me. For seniors, I have consistently defended Social Security and
Medicare from budget raids, fought to include an affordable prescription
drug benefit in Medicare, and cosponsored legislation that addresses the
problem of the "notch babies." My position as the Co-Chair of the Older
Americans Caucus in the House of Representatives has given me the
leverage and the experience to champion seniors' issues most effectively
in the U.S. House.
On health issues generally, I have fought for a real Patient's Bill
of Rights, medical privacy, increased funding for children's health
programs, improved access to health insurance, and funding for
anti-domestic violence programs.
Take a moment to review some of my latest actions.
