The gaming and tourism industry is southern Nevada’s primary
economic engine, employing more than 167,000 people and contributing
more than $6 billion to the Las Vegas economy. It has been said that
for every person directly employed by the gaming industry, 2.5
people are employed in related businesses.
Regulation of gaming must remain a state issue. The Nevada Gaming
Commission and the State Gaming Control Board tightly monitor gaming
operations in Nevada. This two-tiered system remains the most
respected in the world.
As the Congresswoman representing Las Vegas, I work to educate my
colleagues in Congress about the effectiveness of our state gaming
regulations and the many contributions the gaming and tourism
industry makes to southern Nevada. In addition, I am a co-chair of the Congressional Gaming Caucus.
