NTIA Home Low Power Television and Translator Grant Programs

Low‑power television broadcast stations, Class A television stations, television translator stations, and television booster stations ("low‑power facilities") are not required to convert to digital and will be able to broadcast in analog after the February 17, 2009, digital conversion deadline for full power television stations.

NTIA has two grant programs to assist low-power facilities during the digital transition.

Notice: NTIA will hold two public meetings to discuss the Upgrade Program. (This is the same version of the notice that will be published in the Federal Register on October 9, 2008.)

WASHINGTON, DC
October 24, 2008, 10:00 AM - NOON
Room 4830
U.S. Department of Commerce
1401 Constitution Ave. NW

Those planning to attend the Washington, DC, meeting must have a government-issued photo ID and should arrive by 9:45 AM to go through Department of Commerce security screening.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
October 28, 2008, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Golden Nugget Hotel

There are changes in both grant programs as result of Public Law No. 110-295, The DTV Transition Assistance Act, which was enacted on July 31, 2008. Public Law 110-295 amended Sections 3008 and 3009 of Public Law 109-171, the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005, which established both programs.

NTIA also operates the Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Coupon Program; many converter boxes contain an analog pass-through feature so viewers can continue to watch analog low-power facilities while also receiving digital full-power television.
