Obama: President Must Ensure Contractors Are Not Jeopardizing Military’s Efforts To End War

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today released the following statement after Secretary of Defense Robert Gates’ decision to investigate the role of security contractors in Iraq:

“Secretary Gates’ decision to investigate the Pentagon’s oversight of security contractors in Iraq is a welcome development, but it’s important for the Bush Administration to provide a more complete accounting of the role of contractors generally in Iraq.”

“The American people have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent in Iraq, what functions security contractors are performing, and whether they are complying with the law. The President must immediately ensure that these contractors are not jeopardizing our military’s efforts to bring this war to a responsible end.”
