Obama Says Chicagoans Should Be Proud

Saturday, April 14, 2007

The Associated Press

CHICAGO- U.S. Senator Barack Obama says Chicagoans should be proud that their metropolis was selected as the American bid city for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The U.S. Olympic Committee chose Chicago over Los Angeles today.

The Illinois senator said he believes having the games in Chicago "can help restore our nation's standing as a source of hope and opportunity around the globe."

U-S-O-C officials will now work Chicago to formulate a bid for the International Olympic Committee. The I-O-C will award the 2016 Games in October 2009.
