WASHINGTON,
D.C. – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the Village
of Skokie a $634,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
The
funds will be used to provide services to low-and moderate-income persons,
persons with disabilities, and those with special needs. The funds will
also be distributed to local organizations that provide assistance to children,
seniors, and persons with HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, the monies will
be used for physical improvements at the Orchard Village group homes for
the developmentally disabled and Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center.
Representative
Schakowsky said, "These funds will help improve the quality of life for
many residents in Skokie. Community Development Block Grants and
other federal programs assist in efforts by local communities to revitalize
neighborhoods, improve public facilities, and promote economic development.
Ensuring adequate funding and strengthening the federal government's commitment
to these programs is one of my top priorities in Congress."
Mayor
George Van Dusen said, "The Village of Skokie is very pleased to receive
this Community Development Block Grant for the 25th consecutive year.
Such federal funding enables us to undertake improvement projects in low
to moderate-income areas of the village, as well as serve the needs of
many residents with special needs. We are very appreciative of this
federal support."
