Service Academy Nominations
< Back to Services
To be considered for an appointment to a United States Service Academy, an applicant must receive a nomination from an authorized nominating source. As a Member of Congress, Rep. Levin can nominate applicants from the 12th Congressional District who meet the eligibility requirements established by law.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age, but not yet 23 years of age.
  • A citizen of the United States.
  • Unmarried, no legal obligation to support a child or dependent.
  • A resident of the 12th Congressional District.

You will need to submit the following to Rep. Levin’s Office:

  • A completed application.
  • The official results of your Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and/or your American College Test (ACT). Congressional codes are listed in standardized test registration booklets.
  • Four letters of recommendation. One from each of the following teachers: Math, English, High School Principal or Counselor, and one from someone who knows you well but is not related.
  • Biographical sketch. Please include your reason for wanting to attend an Academy, long and short term goals, and plans for the future should you not receive an appointment.
  • A recent photograph.

Nominations and Appointments:

  • You will interview with Rep. Levin’s Nomination Selection Committee. They will consider an applicant’s character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation in determining each applicant’s evaluation.
  • All nominations are submitted on a competitive basis.
  • Once nominated, it is the decision of the respective Service Academy to offer an appointment.
  • You must also begin the application process with the Service Academy of your interest.
