Project
Enlightenment is an early childhood education and intervention program of the
Wake County Public School System located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Services
are available to Wake County teachers and parents of young children birth through
kindergarten age.
We believe in building on children's strengths in order to help them be successful
in school and life. This is done through a variety of services that help identify
and serve children at risk for school failure, strengthen parents and teachers
skills in order to work effectively with their children, and provide resources
and training that promote successful schools and successful children.
Since 1969 Project Enlightenment has offered a variety of workshops, resources,
intervention, consultation, and education services to families and teachers
of Wake County. Call today at 919-856-7774. We're here to help. Click here for

Project Enlightenment is part of the US Department of Education's Early Reading First Program through a grant received in 2003 titled "The Literacy Connection" (TLC). Goals of this grant program are to enhance select 4-year-old preschool classrooms in Wake County with "print-rich" materials and activities to encourage pre-reading skills. TLC also provides to these classrooms intensive teacher training, instructional materials, child assessment, and transition to kindergarten services.
It is never too early to start reading with your child. Even young infants can benefit from exposure to books and reading. Parents and teachers are essential partners in any childs development of reading, writing, and language skills which can lead to school success. Download the following information on early literacy activities you can do with your child to encourage early literacy skills.
Starting kindergarten is a milestone children and their families look forward to with great excitement and anticipation. Getting "ready" for kindergarten can mean many things - from getting a new bookbag to practicing opening your own milk carton. Project Enlightenment offers two informational handouts for families getting ready to make the transition to kindergarten: Off to a Good Start in Kindergarten (listing of typical expectations of skills children need when they enter kindergarten) and Transition to Kindergarten (ideas and information about how to make the transition to elementary school a smooth one). Click on the links below to download.
