Sophomore Nicole Gurr was named to the AVCA All-America team.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/13/06)--Sophomore Nicole Gurr has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America team while co-captains, senior Christine Rostowfske and junior Corinne McCormack were named honorable mention All-America for the Bears, who have advanced to the NCAA Division III volleyball tournaments Elite 8 for the first time in school history.

Gurr, a first-team All-NEWMAC, NEWVA and AVCA All-region selection this season, earned AVCA All-region honorable mention honors last season. Gurr leads the NEWMAC in kills per game (5.45), is third in aces per game (0.73), fourth in hitting percentage (.279) and sixth in blocks (.820).

Football - Bears to Host Bridgewater State in ECAC North Atlantic Bowl

Coast Guard celebrated a win in the closing seconds against Bridgwater State on Oct. 14th.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/13/06)--The Coast Guard Academy football team which won the New England Football Conference’s (NEFC) Bogan Division and tied a school-record with eight straight wins, has been selected to host Bridgewater State in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl on Saturday at noon.

The berth to the ECAC Bowl game is the first postseason appearance by Coast Guard since receiving a invitation to the NCAA Playoffs in 1997. Coast Guard has appeared in an ECAC postseason game only one other time. The Bears beat Plymouth State 28-19 for the ECAC North Championship.

Men's Cross Country - Mike Flint heading to NCAA Championship

Mike Flint is going back to the NCAA Championships for the third straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/13/06)--Senior Mike Flint, who earned All-New England honors for the third straight season by placing a personal best sixth overall at the Division III New England Championship, has earned berth to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship at Wilmington College in West Chester, Ohio on Saturday.

Flint, who finished with a time of 25:53.7 on Saturday, was 14th at the New England Championships as a sophomore and 10th last season.

Last season, as a junior, Flint could not overcome a fall at the NCAA Championships last season as he finished 64th of the 201 runners.

Flint earned All-America honors in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track Championship last season with a 7th place finish.

 
Volleyball - Magical Season Continues as Bears Advance to Elite 8

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.—(11/11/06)—-Top-seeded Coast Guard continued is magical season as they won the NCAA Division III New England regional championship, earning a berth in the Elite 8 for the first time in school history, with a thrilling 3-2 win (30-28, 30-24, 30-32, 17-30, 15-12) over second seeded and host MIT.

The Bears (26-2) become the first team from the Coast Guard Academy to advance to the national quarterfinals in any team sport.

Coast Guard, which extended its school-record winning streak to 22 straight matches, advances to the national quarterfinals at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia on Thursday, Nov. 16th. The Bears will take on the # 1 team in the nation Juniata at 8:30 p.m in the fourth and final quarterfinal of the night. Juniata is 38-1 this season and they are the only team to appear in all 26 NCAA Division III Tournaments. 2006 Division III Volleyball Championship Information.
