Federal Emergency Management Agency Relief
by Congressman Mike Ross

“Since I took office last week, my first priority has been addressing the needs of local communities resulting from last month’s devastating ice storm.  This week, I have been traveling around the Fourth Congressional District visiting each of the 24 counties declared federal disaster areas by President Clinton, meeting with mayors, county judges and local residents to help them get assistance in their recovery efforts.  My family and I personally experienced the ice storm at our home in Prescott, and I have seen first-hand the hardships being faced by so many residents and businesses around the district.

Since the storm hit, I have been working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other officials to ensure that all the communities affected receive the assistance they need.  On Wednesday, I was pleased to join the other Members of the Arkansas congressional delegation in announcing that FEMA is raising its reimbursement of debris removal expenses from 75 to 90%.  I am also pleased that the U.S. Department of Labor has announced that it will be providing $3 million to the state to create 2000 temporary jobs for displaced workers to assist in providing humanitarian aid and to assist in clean up and restoration efforts.  I strongly urge any of you who need assistance to file an application with FEMA by contacting them at 1-800-462-9029 or by calling the Arkansas Emergency Management Department at (501) 730-9750.

I am committed to not only doing all I can to assist in the immediate clean-up and restoration efforts, but also to ensuring that all the citizens and businesses in my district have the resources they need to ensure their long term recovery from this terrible storm.”
