Legislative Update by Congressman Mike Ross
New Congress, New Opportunity

December 7, 2002

This week, as our congressional staff in Washington, DC moves into a new office on Capitol Hill, I can’t help but think of all the changes we will face in the upcoming weeks.

I am looking forward to working with the dozens of newly elected representatives from across our country, and to strengthening the relationships I have built with my returning colleagues as well.  These relationships will be even more important in the 108th Congress, since Arkansas’s delegation will be in the minority party in both the House and the Senate.

This is a new Congress, with new opportunities for Arkansas.  I will continue to offer up a new generation of leadership, reaching across party lines to find common sense solutions to our problems.  I think being a successful representative is not about what party you belong to, but how effective you are at building relationships and earning the respect of your colleagues.

We have much work to do in the 108th Congress, and I look forward to the challenges it will bring.  We have a good, solid, and cooperative delegation representing Arkansas, and I know we will continue to move forward in our successes to improve education, to make healthcare affordable and accessible, to truly modernize Medicare to include medicine for our seniors, and to fight for Arkansas’s fair share of funding for roads, highways, and other economic opportunities and jobs that come with federal dollars.

I’d like to remind everyone that we have relocated our office in Washington, DC.  You used to write to us at 514 Cannon House Office Building.  Our new address is 314 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515.  Please continue to e-mail me at mike.ross@mail.house.gov or phone my office at 1-800-223-2220.  I also encourage you to visit my website at www.house.gov/ross and sign up to receive my weekly electronic newsletter.
