Legislative Update by Congressman Mike Ross
Carrying Your Message of Support

April 10, 2003

"Over the past few weeks, traveling throughout our district, meeting with some of you and driving through the main streets of your hometowns, I have heard your words, seen your flags and your yellow ribbons, attended your rallies, and witnessed community after community come together to somehow say thank you to our brave soldiers.
"This sends a powerful message of support to our men and women in uniform, and I am proud of the way we have united in this support.  Now, I am pleased to let you know that next week, I will carry your words and your thanks with me overseas and tell our soldiers how Arkansas is standing behind them.

"Along with a bipartisan delegation of Congressman from around the country, I will travel to Germany and visit the military hospital at Ramstein Air Base, where many of our wounded soldiers are cared for.  I asked schools in our district to write get-well cards for them, and I am proud to say that I have more than 500 get-well cards from our students to help lift our soldiers’ spirits.

"Over the past few days in Iraq, we have seen our soldiers make great strides in liberating the Iraqi people.  On Wednesday, we all saw the moving scene of Iraqis in Baghdad helping our Marines tear down a statue of Saddam Hussein.   Bit by bit, they are tasting freedom as our troops drive the Iraqi military out of their cities.

"We have made swift progress, but our troops still have quite a fight ahead of them.  I am looking forward to this opportunity to personally thank our troops, and I invite you to do the same.  Please visit my website, www.house.gov/ross, where you can write to a service member and let them know just how proud we are of their dedication, their patriotism, and their sacrifice."
