Congressman Mike Ross (AR 04) is proud to announce his Summer 2001 Intern class:  JD Hardin of Dumas and Susan Cannon of Ashdown.

JD is a junior at the University of Central Arkansas majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Political Science. He will be interning in our communications department, helping to organize the Congressman's press activities.

"Politics are very multifaceted and an intern plays a very integral part in helping any office accomplish its goals.  For someone who really likes politics, I consider myself lucky and I am honored to work in the town where our nation is governed," JD said.

Susan is a senior at the University of Arkansas majoring Agriculture Education and Communications. She will be assisting the Congressman's legislative staff.  Susan will be working closely with the issues relating to the Agriculture Committee, including the re-authorization of the farm bill later this summer.

"As a daughter of a farming family, I understand first hand the importance of this legislation to Arkansas farmers," Susan said. "I am excited to be a part of the process."

The internship program provides young leaders the opportunity to serve the community. The program is a six week educational experience in Washington, DC.  The interns focus their time on helping with office duties, working on legislative issues, and providing constituent services to Arkansans visiting our nations capitol.  The student's are selected based on educational experience and their desire to be a civic leader.

"I am  delighted to have these wonderful students as a part of our team.  I think that it is important for young people to service their communities," Ross said.
