Bridgeport Receives $400,000
in Brownfields Grants from EPA
Washington, D.C. –Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT)
today joined Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials
and Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi to announce Bridgeport will
receive $400,000 in Brownfields grants from the EPA to assess
and clean up the former Producto Site. Once cleaned up, the
site will house the Bridgeport Department of Public Facilities.
“The Brownfields program has helped Bridgeport turn
dirty sites in the city into safe, functioning, tax-generating
property,” Shays said. “The EPA’s continued
support is great news for Bridgeport and will help us meet
the re-development goals the city has set. As a resident of
Bridgeport, I’m particularly grateful for this support.”
Shays helped establish the Brownfields program in 1995, which
provides seed money for communities to leverage millions of
state and private dollars to clean up dirty land and make
it useful property.
