Shays Extends Office Hours to Make Staff Available for Medicare Questions

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT) announced today he will extend his office’s hours in order to make his staff available during the evening to answer constituents’ questions regarding the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit, particularly those of children, grandchildren and other caretakers who might work during the day but are helping their elderly relatives with enrollment. Shays will keep his Bridgeport office open from 8:45 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday through Friday for the first two weeks in May. Constituents should feel free to call 203/579-5870 to reach Shays’ staff during both daytime and extended evening hours with questions regarding Medicare Part D.

“You don’t wait to get car insurance until you get in an accident. Don’t wait to join Medicare Part D until you get sick,” Shays urged. “The bottom line is, the May 15 deadline is approaching fast and seniors need to enroll in this insurance program now. I hope these extended hours will be convenient for those caretakers who work during the day and are trying to help their loved ones enroll in the program.”

Shays is also hosting Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit presentations and enrollment with the Southwest Connecticut Agency on Aging and Norwalk Hospital.

“The Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit is an opportunity for those over age 65 to save money on their medicines,” Shays explained. “After over 50 briefings my staff has conducted, we have found that when people understand the choices available, they see its value and enroll. The average participant will save $1100 on medicines this year alone.”
