WASHINGTON,
D.C. – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued “The Bush Administration
Misstatement of the Day” on claims made by the White House about a pre-war
connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda.
Reuters
reported on July 6, 2004 that earlier this year, Vice President Cheney
said that “The notion that there is no relationship between Iraq
and al Qaeda just simply is not true,” and that “the vice president
also suggested he might have more information” about such a relationship
than the 9/11 Commission.
However,
in a one sentence statement, the Commission members stated: “The 9-11
Commission believes it has access to the same information the vice president
has seen regarding contacts between al Qaeda and Iraq prior to the 9-11
attacks,"
Earlier,
a Commission staff report has found “no evidence of a collaborative
relationship between the Iraqi leader and al Qaeda leading up to the [9/11]
attacks.” |
