WASHINGTON, DC -
U.S. Representative Jan
Schakowsky (D-IL), today, released the following statement after the results of
the House Democratic Caucus’s Leadership elections were announced:
“Today is a great day for the
Democratic Caucus and a great day for America. On November 7, Americans all
across the country voted for change. Today, we elected a leadership team that
will respond to that call – taking our nation in a new and positive direction
for a stronger America and economic security for American families. Our new
leaders will help to restore integrity, civility, and fiscal responsibility to
the Congress.
“I am confident
that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Majority
Whip James Clyburn (D-SC), Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), and Caucus Vice
Chairman John Larson (D-CT) will honorably lead our Party and our country in a
new direction that brings positive change.
“Democrats are
committed to addressing our top national priorities: Healthcare, good jobs,
energy, education, national security, the minimum wage, and ethics rules. And
in the first 100 hours of the 110th Congress, America will see this
Congress moving aggressively in the right direction on those and many other
issues.
Under new
leadership in the House of Representatives, I am confident that our great nation
will take full advantage of its great capacity to be a force for good and
provide opportunity for all.”
As part of the House Democratic
Caucus’s official nominating process for leadership positions, Schakowsky had
the opportunity to deliver a statement to second the nomination of Nancy Pelosi
to be Speaker of the House. In nominating Pelosi, Schakowsky said: “The best is
yet to come. And, America, we offer you our best, as we nominate Nancy Pelosi
to be Speaker of the House of Representatives.” |
