Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia said U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky has committed
to pushing for help on regional flood-control measures. Portions of Des
Plaines, Rosemont and Park Ridge will be part of the 9th Congressional
District under redistricting that will take effect Jan. 2. Schakowsky,
an Evanston Democrat, is facing a challenge in the November general election
from Park Ridge Republican Nicholas M. Duric, an attorney and former Maine
Township High School District 207 board member. Schakowsky met with Arredia
on Wednesday to talk about a variety of issues, including Des Plaines River
flood control projects, train traffic and road projects, her spokesman
said. Many projects rely on federal funding, as well as support from the
state and municipalities.
