U.S. Rep.
Jan Schakowsky, an Evanston Democrat, visited a Des Plaines City
Council meeting Monday, and pledged to help the city get federal
money for various projects.
Schakowsky, whose
district includes most of Des Plaines and Park Ridge, said she will work to
make sure Des Plaines gets a share of federal money for homeland security.
About $2 billion is
available for towns in the United States for homeland security, she said.
"I will be working as
hard as I can to make sure Des Plaines gets a piece of that funding," she said.
She also said she has
a six-page list of items the city wants help funding, including a new police
and fire station.
She also made a visit
to Maine South High School in Park Ridge earlier this week, and city officials
expect her to attend the city's Arbor Day celebration at 2 p.m. Friday at North
Elementary School.
