CHICAGO,
IL U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today announced a $156,800
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Grant to Statewide Housing Action Coalition
(SHAC). The Community Development Technical Assistance program
will help SHAC improve the effectiveness of HUD community development and
housing programs.
Schakowsky,
a member of the House Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity,
said, I am pleased that HUD awarded this grant to help the Statewide Housing
Action Coalition continue its valuable work. I strongly support using
federal funds to meet local needs and will continue to pursue such policies
in Congress.
In
a letter to HUD earlier this year in support of the grant application,
Schakowsky wrote, This grant would enable SHAC to continue to provide
training and technical assistance to community-based housing development
organizations, increasing the capacity of housing and development groups
within the Ninth Congressional District and throughout Illinois.
Schakowsky added that SHAC has used similar grants in the past to
[s]upport
newly-created development organizations and to strengthen existing organizations,
resulting in increased community-controlled housing. |
