WASHIINGTON,
D.C. – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today greeted Jordan Levie,
a senior from Evanston Township High School, in her Capitol Hill Office.
Levie is participating in this year’s National Young Leaders Conference
(NYLC), which is sponsored by the Congressional Leadership Council.
“Today,
more than ever, young men and women are passionate about what they believe
in and what they hope to accomplish in the future. And for some,
that passion includes running for public office one day or engaging in
public service. That makes me very proud,” Schakowsky.
“Jordan
is no exception. By demonstrating outstanding leadership skills and
keen knowledge of our government, Jordan represents the best of tomorrow’s
leaders, today. Jordan and his young scholars are an inspiration
to all of us, and I am proud to contribute to their learning experience
while in our nation’s capital,” Schakowsky added.
NYLC
is a leadership development program, which presents outstanding young people
from around the country with an opportunity to learn from today’s leaders
and experience the workings of the federal government firsthand. Through
hands on exercises and seminars dealing with Congress, the Judiciary and
international policy, the conference curriculum helps students develop
valuable leadership skills. Students are now better able to evaluate
critical information, form and advocate positions, and make decisions.
NYLC
students also spend a great deal of time discussing key issues and gaining
a fresh perspective from members of Congress, Cabinet Secretaries, journalists,
diplomats, and others from the private and public sectors. |
