WASHINGTON,
D.C. – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) received a perfect score
from The National Committee to Preserve
Social Security and Medicare. The National Committee to Preserve Social
Security and Medicare is one of the nation’s largest grassroots organizations
devoted to ensuring retirement security for all Americans.
The
107th Congressional scorecard released today by the National Committee
to Preserve Social Security and Medicare examined the voting record
of House and Senate members. For example, members in the House received
a positive score if they voted in support of the Social Security Lockbox
and in opposition to the Bush tax cut and the Republican prescription drug
bill. Thirteen total House votes were examined.
“The
National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare ’s Congressional
scorecard is a trusted barometer for seniors. Seniors can clearly
see that Republicans overwhelmingly voted against their interests by opposing
a comprehensive prescription drug benefit under Medicare and for supporting
a tax cut for the wealthy that threatens Social Security and Medicare,”
Schakowsky said.
In
addition to Schakowsky, all other Democratic Congressmen from Illinois
and Senator Durbin received a perfect score. The highest score received
by a Republican from Illinois was 38%. |
