(Washington, D.C.) Arkansas’s U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark
Pryor, and Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross announced Tuesday that the Planters
Cotton Oil Mill in Pine Bluff has been awarded $497,000 by the United States
Department of Agriculture to conduct a feasibility study on the development
and marketing of neutralized soap stock, an oilseed product.
Planters Cotton Mill received the grant as part of the USDA’s Value-Added
Agricultural Product Market Development Grant program, which provides opportunities
to refine agricultural commodities and products to increase their value
in the marketplace.
The grants are designed to foster the development of value-added projects
to create economic opportunities in rural areas.
By using this grant to create a sound marketing plan, the Planters Cotton
Oil Mill will be able to enhance the marketability of the soap stock, which
will in turn improve their profits and lead to new job creation.
