(Washington, D.C.) United States Senators Blanche Lincoln and
Mark Pryor, and Representatives Marion Berry (AR-01), John Boozman (AR-03),
Mike Ross (AR-04), and Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced today that the Arkansas
Coalition Against Domestic Violence will receive $85,457 for statewide
use through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against
Women.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and each year
about 960,000 incidents of violence are reported against a current or former
spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend. On average, three women are murdered
by their husbands or boyfriends in the United States every day, and approximately
one in five female high school students reports being physically and/or
sexually abused by a dating partner.
The Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV) is a network
of 35 member programs that advocate for the safety and rights of battered
and sexually abused women and their children. ACADV will use this
grant to improve and expand the organization by providing training, technical
assistance and coordination of statewide activities for domestic violence
programs, to coordinate and conduct statewide and regional meetings and
member programs to assess needs and share information, and to provide staff
salaries. |
