Ross Announces 11th Round of FEMA Fire Grants for 4th District Departments

(Prescott, AR) Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) announced that four fire departments in the Fourth District have been included in the 11th round of grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 2003 Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program.

“This round of fire grants brings more than $150,000 to rural communities in our district,” Ross said.  “That funding will go a long way toward helping our local firefighters protect people and property.  Right now we can see the devastating effects of summer wildfires in places like Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming.  It’s our rural firefighters that serve as the first line of defense against these dangerous fires, and it is vital that we help to keep them prepared.  These volunteers put their lives on the line, these grants will help to make sure that they are working with the best equipment and training possible.”

The Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Program includes funding for training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.  Departments in the Fourth District receiving grant awards for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety are as follows:

·        Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department (Oden) - $45,000

·        “Y” Community Fire Department (Rison) - $28,125

·        Boles Volunteer Fire Department - $43,587

·        Trinity Volunteer Fire Department (Texarkana) - $34,961

This is the 11th round of notifications for the 2003 program.  Further notifications are expected on a weekly basis for the next few months.
