Ross Votes Against Watered-Down Ethics Bill
Ross Supports Real Change in Ethics Practices

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Rep. Mike Ross (AR-04), Thursday voted against final passage of the ethics and lobbying reform bill (H.R. 4975), saying the legislation lacks meaningful revisions to current ethics regulations.

“Today I voted against H.R. 4975, legislation that does little to curtail lobbyist activity on Capitol Hill.  It does not ban Members from using corporate jets, it fails to place additional restrictions on gifts and meals from lobbyists, and its provision designed to identify earmarks with the Member requesting them does not apply to authorization or tax bills.

“I support substantive ethics reform, including comprehensive disclosure reports that would require lobbyists to report campaign contributions, fundraisers and other events that honor Members, and the name of each Member contacted.  Without more transparency and stricter standards, we cannot hope to close the revolving door between government and K Street lobbying firms.

“Real change in lobbying practices is vital to protect integrity in our government.  I will continue to fight for more stringent standards for both lobbyists and Members of Congress.”
