Ross Garners New Subcommittee Assignments

(Washington, D.C.) Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) Thursday announced his assignments within the House Financial Services Committee for the 108th Congress.  As a returning member of the Committee, Ross will now serve on the Financial Institutions Subcommittee, and will retain his seat on the Capital Markets Subcommittee.

“I am excited about this new opportunity within the Financial Services Committee,” Ross said.  “We have made great progress in the recent past with our work to restore consumer confidence after the corporate scandals that hurt our country.  As a member of these subcommittees, I will be able to continue working to help strengthen our struggling economy by ensuring that our financial institutions have the necessary tools to better serve the public.”

The House Committee on Financial Services oversees the entire financial services industry, including the securities, insurance, banking, and housing industries. The Committee also oversees the work of the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, the SEC, and other financial services regulators.

The Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises has jurisdiction over the U.S. capital markets, securities and insurance industries and government-sponsored enterprises, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It oversees the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as the self-regulatory organizations that police the securities markets.

The Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit focuses on banks, depository institutions, deposit insurance, and the overall safety and soundness of the banking system.

Ross will also retain his seat on the House Committee on Agriculture, where he serves on the Livestock and Horticulture and the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittees.
