(PRESCOTT, AR) U.S. Rep. Mike Ross (AR-04) Wednesday announced
that Columbia Sewing Company, headquartered in Magnolia, Arkansas, has
been awarded a $42 million military contract to produce the Marine Corps
Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU) by the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia.
Columbia Sewing Company has two manufacturing plants located in Magnolia
and Hope. This contract comes on the heels of a six month, $2.9 million
military contract awarded to Columbia Sewing Company to produce 120,000
Iraqi National Guard Uniforms.
Over the course of the last decade, Columbia Sewing Company has manufactured
uniforms and other necessary clothing to supply warfighters in Iraq, Afghanistan,
and around the world. Columbia Sewing Company has a proven track
record of outstanding performance, customer service, and commitment to
the community and considers the employees to be the single most valuable
asset to the company. Earlier this year, Ross facilitated a meeting
between Brian Smith, manager of Columbia Sewing Company, and key officials
at the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia to discuss potential contracts.
“I was pleased to work with Columbia Sewing and assist them in their
efforts to secure government contracts to ensure the continued vitality
of this longstanding company in the Magnolia and Hope business communities,”
said Ross. “By creating 40 new jobs in the Magnolia and Hope communities,
this contract will help to spur economic development in the region.
This is tremendous news for Columbia Sewing and the hard working families
of Magnolia, Hope, and the surrounding areas. This contract will
help to secure a bright future for Columbia Sewing and is a testament to
the quality of the workforce and products they manufacture.”
“Furthermore, I appreciate Toby Stephens and the Magnolia Economic Development
Corporation for their assistance in providing the necessary resources and
information needed by the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia throughout
the contract bidding process.” Ross concluded. |
