Pryce Statement on Foiled UK Terror Plot

Columbus, Ohio – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) issued the following statement upon the announcement that terrorist plans to use liquid explosives to bring down as many as ten U.S.-bound planes had been thwarted by British authorities:

“Today’s news demonstrates clearly that the world remains a very dangerous place, and reminds us all of the incalculable value of our cooperative alliance with Great Britain and our other partners in the War on Terror.

“The War on Terror goes far beyond Iraq. It is an unwavering commitment to utilizing intelligence, international cooperation, and interagency communication to defeat terrorists overseas before they can inflict harm here. And as dozens of plots have been thwarted and subverted around the world as part of this commitment – some in our own state of Ohio – it is neither coincidence nor luck that not one significant act of terror has happened on our soil since 9/11.

“We continue to provide our intelligence agencies and our military with the tools and resources they need to defeat terror. Our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan have degraded al-Qaida, marginalized its leaders and forced them into hiding. While they continue to plot against us, the War on Terror and the affirmative steps we have taken to secure our homeland have vastly reduced their ability to succeed.

“Just last week, Chairman John Mica of the Subcommittee on Aviation toured Port Columbus International Airport with me, and reaffirmed our pledge to use technology and funding to keep our airports and passengers safe. Airport security starts right here at our local airport.  While today's news may understandably slow domestic air traffic temporarily, travelers from and to central Ohio may be assured that I am working with Port Columbus Airport and the Transportation Safety Administration to deliver expertise and resources to ensure the safety and security of our travelers."
