Pryce Secures Federal Funding for West Jefferson
Water Treatment Improvements
WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Upper Arlington) today
announced that the Village of West Jefferson will receive $1 million in
federal funds for vital upgrades to the village’s water treatment
facility. The amount, which Rep. Pryce requested, is part of the fiscal
year (FY) 2005 Omnibus Appropriations conference report.
“I am pleased that funding was
included for West Jefferson to upgrade this facility and address a
long-standing problem with their water supply,” Pryce said. “Families
in West Jefferson will no longer have to worry about the quality of
their water.”
The Village of West Jefferson’s
Water Treatment Plant (WTP) utilizes a groundwater source to serve a
population of approximately 4,300. The WTP is served by an aquifer,
which contains high levels of sodium, chloride, and total dissolved
solids. This problem has inhibited economic development by deterring
businesses which use water industrially from locating in West Jefferson
and has had adverse health effects on the percentage of the population
on low-sodium diets.
Congresswoman Pryce represents the
Fifteenth District of Ohio, which includes Western Franklin County,
Madison, and Union Counties. She serves as Chairman of the House
Republican Conference for the 108th Congress, making her the
fourth-ranking member of House leadership.
