Pryce Votes to Invest in Education, Health Services, and
Job Training Programs
House Passes Labor, Health and Human Services, Education
Funding Package
Washington – Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-15) announced the passage of a bill
which continues Republicans’ commitment to leaving no child behind,
putting every American back to work and helping provide health care to
all families.
H.R. 5006, passed nearly unanimously
Thursday, provides a $2 billion increase for the Department of Education
over last year’s budget, increases funding for health initiatives such
as community health centers and Graduate Medical Education programs at
Children’s Hospitals, provides money to improve the allocation of social
security benefits, and boosts funding to help displaced workers find new
jobs.
“With this bill, my colleagues and I
have addressed many of the issues that are near and dear to the hearts
of central Ohioans,” said Pryce. “President Bush’s commitment to
education continues. We’re making the tough job of finding a new job
easier. And I’m especially proud that we’re continuing the Children’s
Graduate Medical Education program, which helps train great pediatric
physicians at Children’s Hospital in Columbus.”
Columbus Children’s Hospital will
receive nearly $9 million in funding this budget year for the program.
Overall, the bill totals $142 billion in funding, a two percent increase
over fiscal year 2004. For further details about the bill, including the
