Pryce Congratulates Local Couple on Receiving National Excellence in Parenting Award

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-OH-15) today congratulated a Columbus couple on receiving the 2004 National Excellence in Parenting Award.

Clarence and Willa received the award from the National Parent’s Day Council, a project of the American Family Coalition, a national non-profit grassroots leadership alliance promoting family and community renewal through educational and faith-based initiatives.

“Clarence and Willa Lumpkin are most deserving of our praise today,” Pryce said. “It’s a great testament to the Central Ohio community that the Lumpkins are being recognized and honored with such a meaningful award. They have, and will continue, to serve as role model citizens and parents to those in our community who are fortunate to cross their paths.”

The Lumpkins visited with Pryce at the Congresswoman’s office in Washington to complete a two-day trip to the nation’s capital, which included meetings with legislators and attending a banquet where they received their award. Rev. Anthony Flores of Columbus nominated the Lumpkins for the award and joined them on their trip to Washington.

Parent’s Day, held annually on the fourth Sunday of every July, was organized in 1994 to recognize, uplift, and support the role of parents in the raising of children. Local churches, elected officials and activists throughout the nation have creatively launched many activities around the theme of Parents' Day designed to celebrate and strengthen the family.

Congresswoman Pryce represents the Fifteenth District of Ohio, which includes Western Franklin County, Madison, and Union Counties.  She serves as Chairman of the House Republican Conference for the 108th Congress, making her the fourth ranking member of House leadership.  The Congresswoman also co-chairs the Cancer Caucus
