Pryce: 290K Strong and Growing…
Democrats’ Gamble on Weak Jobs Numbers
Spells November Woes
Washington, DC – Seizing on today’s
announcement by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that 288,000 Americans
were added to payrolls last month, House Republican Conference Deborah
Pryce (R-OH) issued the following statement:
“Today’s announcement that the economy
created nearly 290,000 new jobs last month is yet one more sign in a
growing list that America’s recovery is real and underway,” said Pryce.
“This is good news for those workers who
have been struggling and searching for opportunities to find work and
build careers. This is good news for President Bush and Republicans who
supported the jobs and growth plans that are now fueling this economic
turnaround. But for Democrats and their political strategy, this is bad
news.
“This is the eighth consecutive month of
job growth, overturning the one and only basket in which Democrats have
placed all their political eggs. They took a big gamble, crossing their
fingers and hoping that their message of economic doom and gloom would
be supported by weak job numbers.”
Since August 2003, the revised data show
growth of 1.1 million jobs. In addition, the unemployment rate fell to
5.6 percent, and manufacturing employment rose by 21,000 jobs – a
significant increase and the first gain in 4 years.
“This recovery is well underway but far
from roaring. Republicans will continue to fight so that every American
who wants a job has a job.”
