We must make college more affordable for those choosing to continue their education. This year, as it has for the past five years, the president’s budget flat-funds Pell Grants – the largest single source of need-based federal grant aid for postsecondary students. At a time when college costs continue to soar, Rep. Levin feels this approach is misguided. He is a cosponsor of the Student Aid Reward Act, which would provide more than $17 billion in additional college scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students over the next ten years by cutting back on wasteful lender subsidies. This is enough to boost Pell Scholarships by $1,000 per student per year.
