Etheridge Provides Information on How to Assist Tsunami Relief Efforts

WASHINGTON - As one of the first actions of the 109th Congress, the House of Representatives recently passed a resolution offering condolences to the families affected by the tsunami and earthquake and affirming the United States' commitment to the recovery effort. U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) has created a page on his website at www.house.gov/etheridge/tsunami2.htm to provide information on the latest developments on the disaster and ways that North Carolinians can help with the recovery.

"This is a tragedy for the families and nations affected and for all humanity," Etheridge said. "My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the many families affected by this terrible disaster. I commend the generosity of the American public, and I urge all North Carolinians to help as they can with the relief efforts. This will be a long recovery and rebuilding process, and the people of this great country will stand beside those in need. I particularly offer my gratitude to the men and women of the United States armed services who have rushed aid across the glove to the victims."

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), an independent federal government agency, is the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster. USAID's web site contains an extensive list of relief agencies helping with the earthquake and tsunami disaster. Etheridge's website links to USAID as well as other sites for information and updates on the disaster.
