Sara Lang Etheridge Honors Rotarians WASHINGTON - Last week U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) and his colleagues introduced a bipartisan resolution honoring Rotary International and its clubs around North Carolina on their 100th birthday. Etheridge, who has been active in Rotary Clubs, helped introduce HRes 55 honoring the 400,000 Rotary International club members in more than 7,700 clubs throughout the United States. "Rotary Clubs are a powerful force for good in our communities and in our world," Etheridge said. "These clubs connect us to one another and to our communities. I honor and recognize all the members of North Carolina's Rotary Clubs, and I congratulate them on 100 years of fine service." Rotary International was founded on February 23, 1905 in Chicago, making it the world's first service club. The group's motto, "Service Above Self," inspires members to provide humanitarian service, meet high ethical standards and promote international good will. Rotary International is the largest privately-funded source of international scholarships in the world and promotes international understanding through scholarships, exchange programs and humanitarian grants. |
