Etheridge, Ballance Secure $110,000 for Henderson Police

WASHINGTON - U.S. Reps. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) and Frank Ballance (D-Warrenton) today announced that they have secured $110,000 in federal funds to upgrade the Henderson Police Department's technology infrastructure. These funds will enable Henderson's police officers to quickly and securely access department computers when they are in the field.

"This is great news for Henderson!" Etheridge said. "These federal funds will allow Henderson's police officers to take advantage of today's technology to keep our communities safe. Throughout my service in Congress, protecting our people by putting the best resources in the hands of our law enforcement officers has been one of my top priorities."

"This funding will go to help our first responders keep our homes and families safe," Ballance said. "Homeland security begins right here, at home, and I am pleased to see Henderson receive the necessary dollars to help promote safe communities."

This project is funded through Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and administered by the Department of Justice. Etheridge and Ballance as part of the FY04 Omnibus Appropriations bill that passed the House of Representatives before Congress adjourned in December. The bill received final approval from the U.S. Senate yesterday. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.
