Etheridge Introduces Resolution Honoring Cumberland County's 250th Anniversary

WASHINGTON- U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) joined his Cumberland County congressional colleagues Robin Hayes and Mike McIntyre to introduce a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives honoring Cumberland County, its municipalities, and community partners on the 250th anniversary of the county.

"This year is a special and exciting time for Cumberland County," Etheridge said. "It is right and fitting that the United States Congress should honor Cumberland County for its contributions over 250 years. Throughout history and to this day, Cumberland County and its residents are leaders in the nation."

In 1754 the area known has Cumberland County was formed from lands carved from Bladen County and was named in honor of William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, third son of George II, King of England. In November 1789, the North Carolina General Assembly voted to adopt and ratify the United States Constitution at the Market House in Fayetteville then known as the State House. Camp Bragg, now known as Fort Bragg, was established from lands ceded from Cumberland County in 1918, and one year later Pope Army Airfield was established.

A special celebration of Cumberland County's 250th anniversary will take place March 26 through 28. More details can be found at http://www.cumberland250.com/
