Etheridge Selects Artistic Discovery Winner

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) today announced that he has selected the artwork of AshLee Riffe of Sanford to represent North Carolina's Second Congressional District in Congress' annual Artistic Discovery exhibition. Riffe's glass mosaic, "Weeds," will be displayed as part of a national exhibition in the pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol. Riffe, who recently graduated from Lee County High School, will also be invited to a reception in Washington for the unveiling of the artwork on July 13th.

"Artistic Discovery is a great program that expands students' and horizons," Etheridge said. "I am extremely proud of AshLee, her talent and her dedication. I look forward to seeing her artwork each and every day as I walk to the floor of the United States House of Representatives. She will represent the Second Congressional District and North Carolina well."

The Artistic Discovery competition was first initiated by Congress in 1982. Each spring, participating members of Congress select one winning entry to be displayed as part of a national exhibition in the pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol. Since the creation of Artistic Discovery, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the event.
