Etheridge Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from Education Group

CHARLOTTE - U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) today received a lifetime achievement award for service to education from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) at their 89th Annual Meeting. Etheridge received the Distinguished Service Award from the association of school business management professionals for efforts at the local, state and federal level to improve education.

"I am grateful to receive this award from such a distinguished group for my work on behalf of our children and our schools," Etheridge said. "Education opens doors and ensures that every child in North Carolina and across the country can make the most of his or her God-given abilities. I have been proud to work with many individuals and many groups like ASBO during my public service. Maintaining faith in our public schools and honoring our commitments to education will build a bright future for our country."

Etheridge served two terms as state schools superintendent before continuing his fight for education in Congress. Today, Etheridge is fighting for full funding of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and for federal dollars to help build schools in growing communities. Etheridge is also the co-chairman of the House Democratic Caucus' Taskforce on Education.

Founded in 1910, ASBO International is a professional association of more than 6,200 school business management professionals. Its members are employed in public and private school entities, as well as community and junior colleges and state departments of education. Members include non-instructional employees at the local, state and national levels from specialized areas in school business management, as well as the generalized field of school business administration.
