Bronze Star Medal will be presented to James R. Rockwell By Rep Akin at Event Recognizing Military Academy Appointees

Creve Coeur, Missouri- On Friday, May 12, Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO), a member of the House Armed Services Committee will host a BBQ for the Class of 2010 Academy Appointees at Creve Coeur Park. The event will be held at the Heldman Picnic Shelter at Marine Avenue and Dorsett Park. The reception will run for 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm.

"Every year my office has had the privilege of recommending tremendous candidates to the military academies, and every year we far surpass the norm for the number of candidates accepted to West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy," said Akin. "I never cease to be impressed by the quality of candidates in the Second District. The Candidates and their parents have much to be proud of."

Over 50 family members are expected to join Congressman Akin at the event.

Also, at the Friday event, Akin will present James R. Rockwell a Bronze Star Medal (the military's fourth highest award for bravery and meritorious military service) for exemplary service as an infantryman while assigned to Company A, 2d Battalion (Airborne, 8th Cavalry, 1st Division (Airmobile).

According to the citation, "Specialist Rockwell fought courageously in some of the heaviest combat that occurred during the Vietnam Conflict. Throughout this period, he brought accurate and deadly fire against enemy forces. As a member of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), he helped pioneer the Airmobile concept, which laid the foundation for the Army's current Air Assault doctrine. Specialist Rockwell's courage, steadfastness and calmness under fire brought great credit upon himself, the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) and the United States Army."
