Judged at Chesterfield Arts, in Chesterfield Missouri, the work of three
students was chosen to represent the 2nd district in this year's Congressional
Art Competition. As a result, the artwork of local student artists Meredith
Brewer and Katy Benedict are headed to the U.S. Capitol.
Meredith Brewer, a 7th grader at Christian High School, won first place for
her work "Isadora's Dance" done in batik. For one year, her
work will be displayed at the Capitol in Washington D.C. along
with first place winners from other Congressional Districts.
Southwest
Airlines provided the first place winner with three airline
ticket vouchers to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony in Washington
on June 28th. Meredith is also eligible for a $3,000 scholarship
for the Savannah School of Art and Design. Meredith's art
teacher is Bobbie Flannery.
Katy Benedict, an 11th grader at Parkway North High School, won second place for
her work "Alone But Not Lonley." As second place winner her artwork will be
displayed in Congressman Akin's Washington office for one year. Her art teacher,
Grant Kniffen her prize, "Artwork in the United States Capital," a hardback book
of all the art displayed in the Capital Building in Washington and a certificate
of recognition on her behalf.

Cary Gray, Parkway North High School. His teacher is Grant Kniffen.
His art work " Riverhenge" will be displayed at Sach's Branch Library in
Chesterfield until June 5, courtesy of Chesterfield Arts.
