Congressmen Akin and Clay to Present Congressional Youth Service Awards
Ten awards to be presented

St. Louis - On Saturday, April 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the Edward Jones Building at 12555 Manchester Road in St. Louis, Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) will present Congressional Awards in a statewide ceremony, including eight awards to recipients from the 2nd Congressional District. Representative Lacy Clay (D-MO) will also be present an award to a silver medal recipient from the 1st Congressional District. Established in 1979 by Congress, the Congressional Award recognizes young Americans between the ages of 14 and 24 who donate their time to achieve a set of goals in four areas: voluntary public services, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration.

The Congressional Award has no minimum grade point average requirements. It accommodates young people with special needs or disabilities who are willing to take the challenge. The Congressional Award is open to all. The Congressional Award is the only medal authorized by Congress other than the Congressional Medal of Honor. Since its inception, approximately 6,500 Congressional Awards have been earned, representing over 1.5 million volunteer hours.

"It is refreshing and encouraging to recognize these young award recipients who have worked to improve themselves and their communities," said Congressman Akin. The following is the list of recipients from the 2nd Congressional District who will be receiving Congressional Awards at Saturday's ceremony:

John Jabouri Fenton Gold
Steven Robinson Fenton Gold
Elizabeth Doyle St. Louis Silver
Bradley Foster Wildwood Silver
Christianna Lewis Pacific Bronze
Grace Minton St. Louis Bronze
